Wood -V- Fossil Fuels:

Wood Pellets / Chip are carbon neutral, therefore exempt from the Climate Change Levy, unlike fossil fuels.

Long term future of wood is guaranteed, there is 30% more forestry in Europe today than there was in the 1940’s unlike fossil fuels.

Considerable environmental and financial savings can be made using wood pellets / wood chip rather than fossil fuels year on year.

It is important to note that an efficient method of burning the fuel is paramount as inefficient boilers do not allow a “complete burn” and can cause the release of pollution to the atmosphere.

The installation of wood / chip boilers can be eligible for a grant, unlike fossil fuels.

Good quality Pellet and Wood boiler systems have the following features;
  • Self – Ignition.
  • Temperature control systems that monitor the temperature, moderating the heat output and fuel usage.
  • Hopper Size from 200ltr to 5m3 (and above) in either mechanical or hydraulic feed
  • Moisture Content of fuels can range from 10% with wood pellet and as much as 30% > 50% using some Biomass systems.
  • Exhaust fan or natural draught flue systems.
  • Easy to use control panels.
  • Easy to service.
  • Can be linked to existing heating systems.

It is important to note that an efficient method of burning the fuel is paramount as inefficient boilers do not allow a “complete burn” and can cause the release of pollutants to the atmosphere.

Cost Comparisons

Comparative calculations as to the actual cost of pellets versus other fuel types should take account not only of the cost of the fuel delivered to your door, but also how efficiently your heating appliance, for example, your open fire or gas fired boiler, uses that fuel.
